The U.S. Baha'i community is adding its support to The Campaign for U.S. Ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by encouraging participation in an essay contest for U.S. students in grades 6 though 12.
The purpose of the contest is to raise awareness of the CRC among youth and to engage them in thoughtful reflection on the potential impacts the Convention would have on children and youth in the U.S.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child is a human rights treaty that was created specifically to promote and protect the well-being of children worldwide. It sets forth basic standards which individual nations agree to pursue on behalf of children.
More information about the essay contest can be found on the Youth section of the Campaign's website. Five winners will be chosen and will receive airfare and accomodations for him/herself and one parent/legal guardian to participate in the Campaign's 2009 Symposium, which will be held on June 1-2, 2009 at The Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.
