Volunteers are needed as guides at the House of Worship. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the House of Worship by email at: how@usbnc.org or call: 847-853-2300.

The Volunteer Program

The House of Worship Activities Office relies on a cadre of volunteers to help greet visitors, and give them a warm welcome. Volunteers act as guides to answer questions and ensure that the appropriate decorum is maintained in the sacred precincts.

5th Annual Baha'i Choral Music Festival - May 26-29, 2011

The dates for the 2011 Baha'i Choral Music Festival have been set: Thursday, May 26 though Sunday, May 29, 2011. Two free concerts will be held at the House of Worship on Sunday, May 29th at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Countdown to International Day of Peace: A Million Minutes for Peace

Thousands around the globe are preparing vigils and observations for the International Day of Peace on September 21, including a special effort called A Million Minutes for Peace, where individuals are asked to make the following pledge:

"On September 21, I will pause at noon and, in my own way, pray for peace. May my one minute, magnified a million times, begin to change our future."

The lush gardens at the Baha’i House of Worship in Wilmette, Ill. are home to many creatures – chipmunks, rabbits, even deer. Last year at this time the delegates to the Baha’i National Convention were thrilled to look up and see a new addition to the fauna.

The Baha'i House of Worship in Wilmette, Ill., is one of 80 Chicago-area landmarks displayed in miniature at the Wonderland Express at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Ill. On display Nov. 27 through Jan. 3, the 10,000-square-foot exhibit features miniature trains that wend their way around landmarks and waterfalls by way of bridges and trestles.

All the miniature landmarks are individually crafted from natural materials. The replica of the Baha'i temple took three weeks to create and is made entirely of plant materials including lichen and banana stems; the dome is made of a calabash gourd.
